What the course covers

Course details

Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work: which do you need?

There is no fixed rule. The HSE asks every employer to carry out a first aid needs assessment, looking at the type of work, the hazards, how many people you employ and your shift patterns.

Not sure? Tell us about your workplace and we’ll recommend the right course.

Who runs the course

Courses are delivered by Stewart Hansen, founder and principal instructor at Vital Signs First. Stewart has six years of front-line military experience, was originally trained by St John Ambulance, and has been the on-site first aider wherever he has worked. Learners regularly mention the real-life examples he brings to every session.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate last?

Three years. Many employers also arrange a short refresher each year to keep skills fresh.

Can you train our staff at our workplace?

Yes. We train on site for groups of up to 12, so your team learns in the place they would actually need to respond.

Is Emergency First Aid at Work enough for my business?

It depends on your first aid needs assessment. For many lower-risk workplaces it is, but higher-risk sites usually need at least one person trained in the full First Aid at Work course.
